What is Trigger Point Therapy?
Trigger points are tender spots located within a muscle. These points are found in areas where there is decreased circulation and increased contraction or spasm. Trigger points create sharp or constant pain, muscle dysfunction, and sometimes referred pain, or pain felt in other parts of the body. The cause of trigger points can be anything from stress, repetitive or overuse of a muscle, trauma/injury, or structural imbalance. When individual muscle fibers are unable to release their contracted state, pain develops due to a decrease in circulation and a resulting build up of metabolic waste in the muscle.
